That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is a light, fun, silly (in a good way) read. The story centers around Cinnamon who, in a drunken stupor, saved Fallon, a stunningly gorgeous demon who keeps losing his shirt. Through bad luck, Cinnamon (called Cin) finds herself accompanying Fallon on a mission to destroy the power source of a false goddess.

The story is told with its tongue firmly ensconced in its cheek. It is filled with humor (though some of it misses the mark) and a wink and nudge. The plot is basic, a means to force Cin and Fallon to spend time together, eventually leading to sexy times. The characters were mostly okay – I did like the fact that Cinnamon had no desire to be a hero/go on a quest, her primary focus being food.

This is a quick read, a perfect palate cleanser between larger/epic books.

Hilarious book. Lots of laugh out loud moments and no battles that go on forever.

Idk what I expected going into this book. I wanted something with dnd/high fantasy vibes but not super high stakes. And I guess this would be considered a Romantasy so like I guess? I think that the plot points actually might be good if that had more time and pages to develop. About 175 pages in it felt like the author was like ok let’s wrap this up. If you’re here for the romance/smut then maybe you’d like the book more then me. It’s very Insta love-y and the A/B/O aspects through me for a loop in published fiction. I just don’t think this book is my cup of tea. That being said I think it’s really important to diversify fantasy and the romance genres so this book does have value and if that’s your vibe then I think this book would be a great addition.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon was a D&D monsterf**ker fantasy that I didn’t always want to participate in.

The premise of this book was fun, but I didn’t click with the writing style. It felt very choppy and informal, and while I don’t have an issue with simple writing I do still want the sentences to flow. I also hope that the extra round of proofreading that this book got when it was picked up for traditional publishing helped with   the typos, but the thing that disconnected me from the book the most was the Hamilton reference. After that it was very hard to get back into the book.

Usually with books like this I can give a slight pass for the plot not 100% lining up if the spice is good, but this was the same scene played out three different times. The book is so short that it was really noticeable, especially when the spicy scenes don’t start till there are only 72 pages left in the book.

This was a fun time, but not a great time. I wouldn’t say that I don’t recommend it, but I would only recommend to specific people. 2.75 stars.

Spicy and funny. Vibes are me giggling with my feet kicking in the air. Read the second one first and think I love this one just a bit more.

Can't wait to read the third book!! 🫶
