Just couldn't get into it. As soon as I got interested in what one character was doing, it switched pov and I was in another character's head

This a really bad book that isn't interesting in the slightest. I urge you not to read it. I couldn't even get 1/3 of the way through it. Very boring.
Ghost chasers lame attempt at romance beyond the grave
I've read quite a few of Jodi Picoult's books at this point, and this one might be my favorite. Told in her signature style with shifting narrators and a central emotional theme, Second Glance had a supernatural element to it which I wasn't expecting and really enjoyed. Like in her other texts, the narrators' stories all intertwined throughout the course of the book, but I appreciated how slow that part of the plot unfolded in Second Glace. It felt slow and haunting and beautiful.
The central part of this story surrounds a plot of land that has recently gone up for sale. The Abenaki Native American tribe claims it's ancient and sacred burial ground. The greedy developers say it's nothing of the sort. A ghost investigator is called. The city suddenly undergoes strange changes, including flower petals falling from the sky like rain drops. Suicide, genetic disorders, racism, and hauntings are the biggest themes in this unique family-centered drama, and I genuinely found the book to be fascinating.
The characters, for the most part, felt genuine. I appreciated the drama and the big life issues the book addressed. Towards the very end of the text, things got a bit too cheesy for my liking - lots of talk of "true love" and all that - but besides that, I really enjoyed my read and would recommend it to book clubs or anyone with an affinity for chick lit.

Ross Wakeman, a suicidal grifter and ghost hunter, explores supernatural happenings when a piece o land (Abenaki tribe burial ground) is put up for sale. The "ghosts" all of time travel to weave a story that connects the past to the present.
SLOW, confusing beginning - I almost abandoned the book and I NEVER do that. Vermont history (eugenics) was really interesting, excellent them. Plot - just ok.

Ooh, I started this at night and it spooked me a little. Then I picked it up in the daytime and it was no big deal. Amazing what light does...
I was really hooked by this book, and pretty much took it with me everywhere so I could find out what happened. I enjoyed it and will read Jodi Picoult again, although there was a scene at the end of the book that I felt was contrived for the masses, therefor losing some of the magic of it for me. Still, I liked the book and find it interesting that it was in my hands at the same time as I was reading the Language of God and considering the Human Genome Project.

I still find her to be an amazing author, and this is one of her best books yet. Very complex and, as usual for her, rich with controversial topics...in this case, eugenics and medical ethics mixed in with ghost hunting and paranormal activity. The story is a little confusing to follow, at first, but just that it unfolded and made sense as the book went on is a tribute to her talent. Her writing is so beautiful and paints a vivid picture. You really get to know the characters and root for them. She is one of my favorite authors of all time. This would be an amazing movie!
