Plot or Character Driven: A mix

I've read several of Picoult's books, and you tend to either love or hate her style, particularly her penchant for twist endings. This is my favorite out of all of them, even though it deals with ghosts and the grim legacy of eugenics in America.

It took me a little while to get into this one. It could be because I was busy with school stuff. But once I got into it and it started getting good, I didn't want to put it down. I have to say, one thing I don't like about Picoults endings is that they just end, leaving you to guess what happens next..

Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. She writes captivating stories that tackle difficult and controversial topics. However, with each book I find myself frustrated by the amount of main characters she tries to develop. Due to the quantity of characters, I find myself not satisfied with having an understanding of them. This book started off slow for me, and I had to re-start it multiple times. However, the story line picks up drastically in section two and from that point on had me captivated. Overall, I thought the storyline was creative and I did enjoy her characters.

I would have given this a 4 or 5, but the ending was just too ridiculous for me. And, all the "twists" with the exception of one were visible from miles away.

Holy Crap! I mean...do I believe? Well, I don't know if I did, but my tendencies are to say that there are probably folks who can see "ghosts" or whatever we want to call them. This book was such a surprise! I did NOT think I was even going to finish it when I started. But then I couldn't read it fast enough to find out what happened. And, once again, I was rewarded until the end. How does she do it??? I suppose I will just revel in the glory of the fact that she just keeps writing more for me to read!

This is one of those novels that completely consumes you, until you finally reach the end with a big gasp of breath. It's beautiful and tragic, heartwarming and intriguing. It's full of ghosts, history, characters you really care about, and a mystery that will completely hold you enthralled. It's also a book that will make you value your mortality and hold on to life. It will make you want to talk to the ones you love and hold them just a little bit tighter, because you just never know what's around the next corner. Someone is always worse of then yourself.

My favorite Jodi Picoult book to date, though quite an unusual premise. I am not necessarily into books about the paranormal, but this one was fantastic!
