I think this was a great debut novel for Daniel Greene, so from that perspective a 4-star. From my perspective as a fantasy reader and in comparison to my other reviews a 3-star novella.

I liked the fact that we get a full story which gets sufficiently resolved. We get from a murder mystery to a conspiracy, with deduction, action and plot twists. The ending was slightly ambiguous, which was not for me. Looking at the description of the next book it is unsure whether this story really has any significance to it, except for a bit of context and yet it keeps a bit of a loose end. Who knows, I'll find out in the next book, but not having a clue leaves me somewhat unsatisfied.

I think the world is quite interesting, although some world-building is missing. Still, the societal structure which is pivotal to the series, I believe, is very well introduced. I think character work and world-building read natural. The thing I really did not like in the writing was the foreshadowing with phrases like 'this would be the last...' something. But that only happened twice.

All in all a solid debut, that will require some readers to be a bit forgiving for that, and personally looking forward to read the rest of the series.

If you want to start an audio series the voice actors were great and Daniel B. Greene has uploaded the first two books of this series onto his YouTube channel for free. So if you are thinking about the series I recommend you go have a look.

This was an interesting way to introduce an audience to this series. I think the world is really interesting as we are introduced into a society that is dystopian, steampunk and fantasy presented in a murder mystery novel. For the most part it was easy to follow along with the story though there were moments that felt murky when listening, like we are meant to know more about this world then what I had at the time. This could also be due to the pacing as I think the story takes place over a day and night. The characters were nothing special, actually the one character that caught my interest, Christy, wasn't introduced until the end of the book, and had me wishing we saw more of her.

I think the ending was a bit rough for me and what made me both like and dislike the book. I am assuming it made sense in the world and the ending felt a little unnecessary and bugged me a little, but I can see that there is a set up for ideas later in the series. I am interested to see how the second book goes as the audio is double the length and I think that is where we will hopefully start to get to the meat and bones of the world lore.

I subscribe to Daniel on YouTube, and wanted to support him by buying his novella. Obviously it's a debut which for the majority of hopeful authors will turn out to be a miss, and unfortunately, this was one of them. I found the plot summary intriguing enough, but the execution of the story was not good. The characters felt one-dimensional and not really worth my time investing in. The writing was amateurish and full of tropes, which is odd because if anyone should know better to avoid those, it's Daniel.

Overall I think Breach of Peace is a neat concept, but the final product just really wasn't worth my time.

While the book had its entertaining moments, I found myself frustrated with Daniel Greene's abrupt transitions between scenes and the lack of elaboration on crucial elements. Perhaps constrained to its 100 pages, the story suffered from an imbalance in detail allocation, with excessive focus on inconsequential gore at the expense of exploring the intriguing magic system and political dynamics. Despite these shortcomings, the characters were compelling, though their backstories felt underutilized, leaving me wondering if this was a deliberate narrative choice.

This novella has its flaws, but with it TONS of potential. I’m very excited to see where this series will go and will for sure be picking up the next addition.

Of all the books ever written this is one of them. I was really wanting to support the author since I really like his YouTube channel and all is one to support indie authors. I hope that writing this was learning process for him and he continues to improve his craft if he continues to write. . I think he could probably benefit from some formal education in creative writing. This feels like part of a book instead of a whole book. I understand it’s a Novella and you can’t get too deep into it but it feels like there is no world building whatsoever. There is literally no description of anything until page 20. The main character name is khlid which every time I saw it I thought Khalid and since there was no description of her anywhere my mental picture became dj Khalid. That made me laugh so it improved the experience of the rest of the story.

“This was going to be bad. Recently, several attacks had been made against the Empire, all to send one message: a powerful resistance still lived. They worked in the shadows, sowing doubt in the sanctity of the Empire... This all fits the rebels' bloody pattern.”

I am a huge fan of Daniel B. Greene, so going into this new fantasy series from someone I watched regularly had expectations different than if it had written by someone else. I think it’s these expectations, along with some tried and true plot points and clichés that hit that just left me wanting so much more. I overall loved the story and namely the characters, mostly Khlid and her journey throughout. All of the side characters were relatively good, but didn’t do much besides be side characters for Khlid. This goes for locations and events, as well, and I feel this is something that comes from debut novels.

As much as I would love to give this a five star rating, there are simply too many clichés and not enough strong elements of the book to warrant a perfect rating, but not nearly enough negatives to make it unreadable, also. Simply put, this book is kind of right down the middle in terms of quality, but there is so much potential from Greene that I feel future books could excel into higher ratings.

Some clunky writing and dialogue at times, but overall I thought it was an intriguing fantasy debut by one if my favorite booktubers!
