What a wild ride! It’s heartbreaking and joyful and surprising…you find yourself rooting for characters who suddenly feel like family. Top notch.
Nope. Nope. Nope. Chapter 1 describes the start of the pandemic with a few supernatural references that made me look askance at the book. Chapter 2 started talking WITCHES. So bye bye book. (I will read an end-of-the-world because pandemic science-based book, but hate supernatural shit)
Awesome book!! Each character was deep and I wanted more of them. I loved the mix of positive human interactions with the jarring ugliness of greed and prejudice. What an interesting time to finally read this book... a lot of correlation with current times.

I read a lot of her books back in high school, and I always like when she drops in a little practical magic, but this is a real departure for her. I wanted to try it, though, as dystopian fiction is not really my fave (particularly in the current political climate when disaster seems all too possible). I didn't know what to expect, but this definitely surpassed any expectations I had. She has moved well past the standard romance-novel tropes that made her career, and wove together the stories of multiple people, even creating a fictional world without losing focus on the emotional lives of the individual. I really liked it. I immediately tracked down the next one in the series!
Loved every bit of this book. Kinda hits home reading this since COVID began, even though this wasn't even in the author's line of sight while writing this book. Makes you relate to the characters a lot more since a lot of us have dealt with loss.
A few bits and pieces were interesting but it was mostly pretty dumb.
I want half stars so much! 3.5 *
It was enjoyable, it kept me reading and interested.
But... it's The Stand.
Big plague, magic, good and evil fighting over the new world... there was even a tunnel escape.
I was fully expecting for the explanation about breaking windows.
Enjoyable book, but M-O-O-N spells Year One.
But yeah, I'll read the sequel!
