very dense, descriptive and archaic. but idc - the scarlet letter is a gem of a book about compassion, autonomy, and change. hester touched me so deeply when i first read this. for her singular transgression she faces severe ostracization within the unforgiving bounds of Puritanical society. yet, she was an extraordinary model for teenage me of how a single, solitary woman can hold unwavering self-kindness, quiet dignity, and remain soft even in the midst of darkness.

Was probably the only person in my class who much preferred reading the book to watching any kind of adaptation.
I know people who adore this book, cosplayed as characters from this book (yes, I wish I was joking), and much more. But this novel is not my cup of tea. Truly thankful I didn’t have to write a report on it in high school like most students.
