this was such a rollercoaster of a book (for me) and i loved every single page so, so, so much. i think rs grey might be my favorite romance author now

Now that was satisfying. Tension, chemistry, and an interesting premise. It tapered off a little, but their connection was always palpable.

Home run as far as I am concerned, 4.5 stars. Consistently enemies to lovers and not insta! I needed this one to pull me out of a slump :)
I like how RS can write in such a way to really make you see what the character is going through. Taylor is stuck in a small town with little options for uneducated people, unable to succeed due to her commitment to helping her mom and sister. At least they were her cheering section instead of takers and abusers!
Ethan is a pretty cold character, but driven and successful. It does seem a little strange that Taylor tries to go in disguise as a guy but for some reason the whole thing works for me. I loved how they had undeclared warfare in the cabin! HEA of course with a 6 yr. epilogue.
Spoilers and highlights:
He doesn’t smile with interest like most guys would when he notices my unabashed perusal. Instead, he raises one dark brow as if to say, Almost done? and I realize I was wrong before. This one’s not the prince in the fairytale.
He’s the dragon.
They have chemistry right off the bat. But she makes a series of decisions that end their night. Her cousin finds them a work opportunity and I really like Taylor's priorities:
I glance over my shoulder, but there’s nothing out of the ordinary, just a bunch of guys shuffling around in line, bored. Some of them are chatting amongst themselves. Some are on their phones.
One guy is ferociously tearing into a cinnamon roll, and I think I like him the best of all. If I get hired, I hope we work together.

To me, they’re lovely, and I think that’s the first time I’ve used that word in my adult life without a single note of sarcasm.
Taylor begins working for Ethan:
They’re going over the schedule for the week, what equipment will be used on what day, which of the dumpsters are full and need to be replaced, what torture techniques Ethan will employ on me first.
Okay, that last one is just in my head.

I’ve found that by making me prove my own usefulness, Ethan has likely turned me into a better employee than I ever would have been otherwise.
I’m so determined to work hard and make him aware of how hard I’m working, I barely stop moving during the second week at the camp.
War in the Cabin:
He likes to take his sweet time putting on his workout clothes so I’m forced to avert my eyes for as long as possible. Because no, he never goes into the bathroom to change. He wants me to ask him to go into the bathroom. He wants me to admit I’m bothered by his naked torso. BUT I AM NOT.
I take extra-long showers and steam up the whole cabin, ensuring my body wash is a lingering scent that clogs his nose for hours afterward. I bring in more wildflowers and set them up in jars around the room. That way, wherever he looks, he sees them and therefore has to think of me.
It’s beautifully evil.

If before our game was to try to appear unaffected by the other person, now it’s morphed into Who Can Turn the Other On the Most.
I like how Ethan was LOOKING for some one to match wits with:
“It’s a fair question. After all, you know about my family. You know I have a twin sister—”
“And parents?” she interrupts. “Do you have those, or were you just spawned from the underworld one day?”
I’m glad she can’t see my smile.

“Did you mean what you said earlier?” I ask, finally picking up where he left off, wanting answers once and for all.
He frowns at the fire. “If you’re just hoping I’ll repeat it again for your amusement, I won’t.”
“I was hoping you’d repeat it again for my pleasure,” I reply, a wicked little smile on my lips.
Isla is a great character:
“Well good job, big brother, you successfully scared her off.
Now what are you going to do? Pick a fight with a baby bunny? Maybe harass a little fawn?”
And how yummy Ethan was portrayed:
His brown hair needs a trim, but I secretly love the extra length. With it so disheveled, he looks like a farmhand about to drag me into a barn and have his wicked way with me.
Oh right, I’m supposed to be angry.

“But honestly…DIMPLES. I saw them! Mr. I’d-rather-die-than-smile-in-your-vicinity has dimples! If that’s not injustice, I don’t know what is.” .
That’s just one of the quotes that literally made me laugh out loud in this book. Taylor and Ethan meet in a bar & what was thought to be a one night stand turns into “I’m gonna steal your wallet so I can help my family” night but then she doesn’t and returns it. Still trying to make ends meet, she applies to be a man working at a construction site, but girlll curves do not lie. Everyone knew she was a woman from the beginning and ding ding you guessed it the man she almost stole from is now her boss. Taylor doesn’t give up even though Ethan does everything in his power to make her life hell.
Eventually the coldhearted boss turns into to a hot freakin firework and they know they can’t resist each other in the end, and it’s everything and more. I loved their banter, their inner thoughts towards each other was gold. I also loved that Rachel invested her time in making the other minor characters ones that I appreciate (like his sister for instance) Also also also, the epilogue alone is worth reading. 🎉🔥

Light read that is all
Nothing much to this book cute plot... still not sure what exactly Ethan does. 🤷🏻♀️ This is a book you could pick up and easily read on a beach day.

4.5 stars! Gahhh I love all of the books R.S. Grey puts out, and this was no exception! Taylor and Ethan are probably 2 of my favorite characters she has written and I love the emotion in their story (and yet there’s still plenty of Grey’s trademark comedy, too!). It was a little more of a slow burn romance than I typically go for, but it worked so well for these characters. I absolutely loved this one!
