Well, I thought this was going to be more similar to the movie, but I was wrong. I liked the first half, but the rest was not as I’d expected. I wish Tarantino included all the movie parts, then I'd probably give it 5 stars.
A perfect extension (and re-edit in some cases) of Tarantino’s hang out masterpiece. The book to me, is even more sincere and showcases just how flawed, privileged and down right shitty Rick and Cliff are. It does not glorify their actions but at the same time it feels so human. They feel like real people that I end up rooting for despite how much I know they’re bad people (especially Cliff. What a piece of work.). The book is pulpy as hell with a huge amount of heart. The Jim Stacy/Rick/McQueen/Trudi section near the end had me choked up. Huge sections are added and many iconic sections go totally unmentioned. It felt like a new angle of a story I already love rather than a repeat. True to his word, QT captured the essence of what made movie novelizations so fun to read. In some cases (like this one), the novelizations work better than the film they’re novelizing.

3? 3.5?
some misses, many hits. for me, the structure worked better in the film than the novel and there are expositions that could've been cut (they kept being repeated without adding layer). im glad that the characters were more fleshed out here tho, especially Rick's arc and Cliff's interests. tarantino's writing style is so bingeable, except for a few info dumps that could've been more creatively written.
however, i did at times read it like I'd read a screenplay, so there's that.
I guess I'm rambling, but the point is, I'm pretty glad I read it. I probably would end up liking this more had I read it before watching the movie. I really like the little parts that drive the themes and plot regardless of format.
