This was pretty good for the most part but it was just *so long* and kind of felt like it turned into an entirely different book towards the end. I was so here for all the creepy cult investigation stuff but then over halfway through it was suddenly like and it kind of started losing me. I did enjoy the majority of the book but I think I would have preferred it if the whole thing was much more streamlined and just concentrated on the cult in the 70s and there wasn't the whole weird plotline thrown in there at the end.

oh and now we're gonna do a historical mystery about the middle ages which is the real origin of the stuff and also we now have to kill this kid because there's a body swap element out of nowhereSpoiler

The premise is great. Execution, not so much... Half of the book is the writer explaining about managing cameras and lighting, and the other half is 3 sentences repeated ad nosium in slightly different ways.
For me, it wasn't scary, not even the slightest.
Last Days are full of filler, boring, and unfortunately disappointing.

This is legitimately the scariest book I have ever read. I didn’t love the writing style but the plot and execution is keep the lights on scary.

Slow to get started, but once it does, boy, does it go. Great look into the mind of a cult sprinkled with paranormal and occult. Loved it.
Wow, it's really bad. Shockingly bad. Absolutely chock-full of filmmaking and camera based errors, which is surprising coming from the guy who wrote the amazing film, The Ritual. But the prose is awful, the characters are awful, and most of the book is just a relentless infodump. In the final act, it picks up a bit, but it's way too little, way too late.
And the ending is pretty stupid.
