This is an incredibly well done magical fan fiction of an animated movie and also historically accurate. I loved it. I hate that I loved it so much. It’s not the best written thing, but the pictures and world sucked me in. It might be a major factor that I’m obsessed with this story and lore and my childhood in Russia. But there’s a lot of beautiful world building that doesn’t take you anywhere and yet in the end I never wanted it to sped up.

Wow. Just wow.
Firstly I want to say that it is SO apparent that Sophie put her entire heart and soul into this book. Anastasia takes you on a journey that is unlike any other in my personal opinion. The descriptiveness in this book quite literally makes it to where you can picture every single moment.
I went into this book not knowing any of the history behind the real Romanov family, and as I haven’t seen the movie since I was a child I had a lack of any knowledge in that aspect as well. I did this on purpose so that I would have no idea of what I was getting into other than what the synopsis provided, and this book turned out to be NOTHING like i expected it to be in the absolute best of ways.
I will be honest, it is a hard read (at least for me anyway, and not in a bad way).
The romance is a minor subplot, but absolutely beautiful. Damien and Anastasia had my heart from the very beginning, seeing them grow up together and their love for one another was stunning.
That being said I think that even readers who do not care for romance books will be enthralled by this. There is magic, war, politics and the most jaw dropping plot twists you will never see coming.
It’s hard to describe just how insane this book is without going into any details and spoils, but if you trust anything I ever say trust that this book will not disappoint. Especially once the book really starts to pick up you will be on the edge of your seat, filled to the brim with anxiety, questions and what the actual fuck moments.
Congratulations Sophie for writing one of the top books of the year, and thank you for letting me be apart of this journey early

This was my first read by Sophie Lark and I really enjoyed it! The writing was beautiful and descriptive, but clear and easy to follow. Overall the book kept a good pace.
.
This is a long retelling; 842 pages that covers Anastasia's life from childhood. You will know the Romanov family very well! If you were expecting a short romantic interlude, this isn't that. There is an incredibly slow burn romantic fated mates/ enemies to lovers subplot, however, that was absolutely beautiful. You won't find any steamy scenes till after the 60%-ish mark, but the build up is worth it. Plus, the artwork throughout the book is stunning.
.
I loved that this book captured historical nuances-- the politics, the fashion, the technology of the time period, but gave the world a wonderful twist in which MAGIC and MONSTERS are REAL. Magic that allowed for an HEA for the brave and reckless princess and her dashing Cossack warrior.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIII AM IN LOVE AND OBSESSED.
We had a slow start with this one but watching Anastasia and Damien bloom into what they became? I was hooked. Artemis' talons were stuck in my head and I just could not think about anything else. As a book I was highly anticipating, I am so SO happy that this hit the mark.
Anastasia thought about her every move. Not in a calculated way but she was just very mindful in her actions and by the end of the book, everything has a purpose and is thought through and it had made her such an excellent lead.
But seeing inside Damien's head was a gift. He was so in love with her it caused me physical pain. Reading about how much he loved her was sending me into fits and I wanted more and more of it.
I've never read anything by Sophie Lark but I can only hope that my next read holds up to this because IT WAS EVERYTHING I NEEDED.
ALSO, LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE ILLUSTRATIONS? WHAT A STUNNING BOOK. Truly could not have asked for more here.

This may just be one of the best books I've ever read! I'm in love!!!
I could write about this book for hours but it would be 100% spoilers so let's just say I loved it. The familiar characters were brought to life in a way that captured me like I have never experienced for them. The relationships, both romantic and familial, felt authentic. The writing was elegant and full of feeling. I could feel the pain, and joy, the loss, and love written on the pages. I enjoyed my time spent reading this book.

Couple of things! This book gave me a book hangover and it's only the second day of 2023 so I'm feeling greaaaat. Like many others, I have always been fascinated with Anastasia (both historically and cinematically) so I knew I had to give this book a go. I heard mixed reviews going in, particularly with how loooong this book was. It was 800+ kindle pages. It was evident that the author put in snippets of historical events (with a fictitious twist), but I can agree with most in saying that this book did not need to be as long as it was. Even so, I still loved it so much and now I'm pacing the house because I feel empty inside.
