July 2017:
"Got" a lot more in this second reading. Still love it.

June 2016:
Wow! What keeps me coming back for more is the characters in this epic story. To me, they are 'real' characters: they have ambitions, they are affected by their relationships, by what happens to them and by the choices they make.
There are a lot of threads and I feel I really need to go back to the start and pay *lots* more attention to the details! But, what a ride! it won't be boring re-reading !
And a random thought: Dany's leadership and compassion to her people reminds me strongly of Lady Diana. Anyone else?

Absolutely loving this series, but really hoping that Dany FINALLY enters the fray and stops hiding/moping away.

Love the fact that the Bran is coming into his own now, and really excited with how that is playing out. Looking forward to the rest of the series... Get writing George!!

Unfortunately, I lost interest in this series after reading half of it. The reason why I lost interest is because I feel like I'm investing so much time into something that'll probably never be resolved and I'd rather read/continue with series that are completed or are highly likely to be completed. If GRRM releases the last 2 books at some point, I'll probably reconsider and pick up this book again.

waaaay better than affc
there wasn't a single bad or boring chapter I fcking devored this book and I'm going to read the last one as soon as I'm done with this short review
I absolutely adored Jon, god...I missed him deeply during affc...he's my favorite character BY FAR he's so compassionate but not completely naive (hello tv Jon...sigh), he's strategic and pls I love his dry humor!! Also, his relationship with Stannis??? AMAZING I swear I love their dynamic and the parallelisms between them (also...book stannis?? I love him)
I loved Melisandre's chapter and how compassionate she is about Davos and his son
Tyrion's chapters were entertaining and I'm so glad we got to know young griff (or should I call him Aegon??) I love him so much he's precious even if he's a bit naive and got played by Tyrion (although...so did I..Tyrion played us both at the same time...I truly believe he was giving genuine advice to Aegon and I would have trusted him just the same as Aegon did....damn I wouldn't last a day in this world lmao)
Also, this book confirmed the fact that Dany is a bad ruler....she's young but I don't think it's only about that..Jon is just as young and he's so much better than her
Reek's chapters were really frustrating I was aching for him to just kill Ramsay (especially during his last chapter with Jeyne) but sigh I can't be mad at him, poor boy suffers from too much trauma...Ramsay is a piece of sh*t..Really hope he dies soon

""Princess Elia was a good woman. I know the prince was very fond of her." Fond, thought Dany. The word spoke volumes" Rhaegar didn't love Elia and I'm pretty sure he was genuinely in love with Lyanna, it wasn't all about the prophecy.

A solid A Song of Ice and Fire entry, with mesmerizing characters and surprising twists that enrich this complex world.

My biggest - and somewhat perplexed - complaint relates to Davos. For some reason, I find his POV so boring, even though he has one of the most interesting backstories.

On the other side of the spectrum, there is a bunch of characters that earn extra points in the books. Melissandre's perspective is always so intriguing, and Jon Snow has a mind of his own and a developed personality, just to mention a few. Quite a few plot points and characters were cut off or trimmed from the series, and I'm glad that we have the books dive deeper into one of Martin's most notorious skills: the webb of actions and consequences that plagues and motivates his intricate characters.
