What a fun and wonderful story! Honestly, the blurb was so captivating that I knew I would like this book, but it turned out to be so much better than expected! Lots of Bi rep, which was excellent. Also
dom Marian and sub Rob had me in a chokehold
definitely recommend giving this book a read!

I had such a freaking good time with this!! The banter was absolutely choice (more romances need to start through blackmail tbh) and as always I loved the anti-rich/monarchy themes. Rob has my whole heart ❤️

I mean two bisexuals starting a life of crime together, what more could you possibly want??

For me a 3,5 rounded up. I don’t think regency thing is really for me (was my first try) but messy bisexuals are definitely are, and these two were a lot of fun to read about.

** Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a honest review **

Okay guys THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! I read The Queer Principles of Kit Webb last month and thought it was a solid read, but I was even more excited to find out we'd be getting Robb & Marian's romance. The storyline for this book primarily runs parallel with the events of book one, so while I’m sure this technically could be read as a standalone I definitely think this series should be read in publication order for optimal enjoyment (even though some of the plot points felt a tad repetitive since I already knew a lot of what was going to happen). Marian & Robb were everything I wanted them to be and more. I was absolutely obsessed with Robb in particular. He was so wholesome, loveable, and such a well-executed cinnamon roll hero. In contrast, Marian’s grumpiness and rigidity complimented Robb’s character really well and provided for a lot of fun moments along the way. It was nice to watch Marian slowly open up to Robb and become more comfortable with herself and her emotions, but also not having to see her go through an unnecessary personality transformation you sometimes get from other books with the grump x sunshine trope. Cat Sebastian really excels at strong dialogue, which was evident here through all of the witty banter and bickering. This book had so much whimsical charm, I literally found myself smiling like a darn fool while I was reading it. I also loved the healthy and non-traditional representation of their intimate relationship. There was a lot of solid on page communication related to intimacy and I felt like Cat Sebastian handled the topic in a very non-judgement and respectful way. The only complaint I really had was that the actual plot left a little to be desired since it ran parallel with the first book for so long, but since I enjoyed the romance and characters so much it didn’t really impact my overall reading experience. Whether you like reading historical romance or not, I definitely recommend giving this series a try (and just Cat Sebastian in general).

Tropes/Themes:
-Historical romance (~1700s England)
-LGBTQIA+ rep (bisexual H & h)
-Grump (h) x Sunshine (H)
-Only one bed
-Heist/Robin Hood vibes
-Tons of witty banter and charm

I was really bummed because I was so excited to read this one after finishing the last book but it just wasn't keeping me engaged. and MMC just wasn't telling FMC his secret despite giving FMC's husband shit for not being honest with her..... hypocritical and I just wasn't feeling it.

this book was theoretically so fun, and so good. the premise is very interesting, what with all the robinhood mmc and blackmailer x murderer romance, and a million other things that set up to a novel that apparently can’t fail. reading this, however, was a complete antithesis, and ended up being one of the more dull books i’ve ever pushed myself to go through.
all of that falls entirely on the characterization to me; this is a book based 100% on ideals- in the plot, in how the characters behave, in how they interact. it’s as if someone took the whole concept of insta perfectionism and jammed it full in every character they could. that’s not necessarily a bad thing - it just makes for very unrealistic, and therefore utterly unrelatable, characters. it gets tiring, because none of them felt real. i need flaws, i need growth, i need character arcs; all of which becomes impossible the second you par your characters with perfect and refuse to let them age.
the writing alternatively, was done mostly so well, if a bit cliché and derivative; you could tell which lines (and there were many) picked out almost directly from viral twitter/tumblr quotes, and that really brought down the book somewhat for me.
all of that aside, i do appreciate the concept of this so much, especially since it’s as untapped as it is. i picked it up in the first place thanks to that, and while it was a mostly disappointing read, i’m glad to have read it anyway.
*this review is based on the arc.
