It was one of the few things he had to believe in, the possibility of beauty when faced with the reality of so much ugliness.
I wanted to give this 4 stars because I love the concept for the first part, but some of the writing was rough. The dialogue wasn't the best and the action seemed to stop at random moments so the characters could talk while there was a full-on fight to the death in the background. Magnus' attitude when facing the Circle was very in character, I enjoyed that, but his power levels are inconsistent.
The second part is about Jocelyn's first meeting with Magnus. Making that encounter so heavily about Tessa was...a choice. I love Tessa, but the purpose of these stories is to learn more about Magnus' character. Spare me another speech about the Herondale line. A glimpse of the Uprising would have been more interesting.

I am enjoying these so much. They are so fun and I love seeing the side characters
Okay this one was SO GOOD!! Tessa, Jocelyn, baby Clary, the beginnings of The Circle, and seeing how everything unfolded during that time was so interesting! The perfect snippet into that part of history. Tessa is also just amazing & her friendship with Magnus is so heartwarming! She’s such a great character & I’m glad we got to read about this!
