I'm blown away by this installment of The Bane Chronicles! Fans of The Mortal Instruments know that Valentine was a despicable Shadowhunter, but in my opinion this ebook shows how truly horrible he had been. Good riddance!
The were a lot of familiar names and also a lot of references to The Infernal Devices which I loved. The pacing was fast - Clare, Rees Brennan and Johnson did a great job - and I loved being inside Magnus's head while he met the Shadowhunters we know from The Mortal Instruments. We got a complete different view on them which will definitely influence me when I re-read the TMI books. The ending was (bitter) sweet and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed this book as much if not even more as The Midnight Heir (The Bane Chronicles #4).

One of the more enjoyable stories with lots of familiar faces.
This book definitely hurt the most to read. It shows Valentine in a forest light and how Luke is actually a good person - while he has made terrible decisions and done cruel things. I can’t stand what happened to the little werewolf girl though… it was appalling and just… Valentine is a monster and was before he started experimenting with demon blood.
Another great installment...only one more to go! I loved the look at the Circle, at Valentine's charisma and cruelty and his strained relationship with Luke. I have a fascination with the Lightwoods that was satisfied by this too. Maryse and her strength shielded doubt and ever stoic and aloof Robert make a strong appearance here too. Magnus, of course, is, as ever, driven and kind and introspective, an extremely enjoyable narrator to read.

I really liked this one! The best part is at 79% when Tessa talks to Jocelyn. Dang! is all I could say.
