Good read, a bit long winded and I could do without the latent sexism.

I really enjoyed this book; the pacing was really good and I wasn't expecting the final twist at the end, even though I'd managed to work out the relationship between Mary, Judy and Sinclair about 2/3 into the book. I was really glad that David and Laura didn't turn out to be brother and sister!
Also, Stan wasn't as much of a horrible person as he couldn't have been, so pat on the back for you.

One of my favorite authors but they weren't always as good as they are now. This is his first book and it is pretty bad; awkward dialogue, unbelievable characters, in need of a good editor. I've read worse but don't judge him by this book. I've read a few others and they are top-notch.
He acknowledges all this in the forward so believe him and read something later if he is new to you. Otherwise, read it so you can see how much he's improved since this book!

Pretty disappointed after hearing so many good reports on this author. I will try another of his more recent books and I’m hoping they will be better. This one reads like a bad soap opera script. Dialogue was bad, plot was worse. I kept hoping it would get better, but the “plot twists” at the end were not good and pretty obvious. Yuck.

The first Coben book I read was the first in the Myron Bolitar series. I loved them and read them all before hitting the stand-alone books. I read somewhere that his first two books sucked so I skipped this one and the second, started with the third, and never turned back.

After running out of Coben books I figured what the hell? It was a little long. It was a little far fetched, bordering on unbelievable, and I FREAKIN LOVED IT! Books are supposed to be a little out there sometimes and this one certainly was. But it was fun and now I can’t wait to read the only one I have left to read until next spring, MIRACLE CURE.

If an author is in your top 5 all time, read everything he has given you.

I'm a big Harlan Coben fan. I "read" this book via audiobook.

I was a bit surprised to discover a forward before the book by the author stating that if this was your first Harlan Coben book, to put it down and choose another. This was in fact his first novel that was recently re-released and basically not up to the standards of his other books.

There are some good things about this book. The story drew me in and while he allowed the reader to fully discover some plot elements, there were others that took awhile to figure out. I wanted to keep reading until I knew how the story ended.

The biggest problems were how drawn out it became as well as a few stretches of the imagination required in order for the story to be plausible. With all that being said, I still enjoyed the book.

There's something charming about Coben having this reprinted with the disclaimer about it being his first book. It was pretty bad but generally I find his books quite good, so I appreciate getting to see where he started from in comparison to where he is now. It's sort of inspirational to see how much his writing has evolved with years of work. I'm glad he kept at it.

You get what you expect from a thriller. It takes a bit long to set the story up but the second half of the book is bound to keep the reader on their toes. It is no work of art though and the language is a bit bland. Best consumed at the beach!
