the writing was great and it definitely deserves classic status, just a lot of the book wasn’t really for me

I'd say my rating is more of a 3.5, but as I don't have that option, and as it contains one of my favorite quotes, I've upgraded the rating.
I don't recall being particularly crazy about this book when I first read it in high school. however, as an adult, I think I can appreciate the raw and violent character given to Heathcliff. It's not that I like his anger and violence, but that I am fascinated that such masculine brutality was written by a female author. I like to imagine the dark realities of the Brontë sisters shattering the fragile characters of Austin's novels.

Oh, and that favorite quote of mine?
"...he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."
