4.0 AVERAGE

This book was so relatable and emotional to me.
The self-discovery, having people with you along the way. people who are also figuring out more about themselves it's all so cathartic.
I hope that everyone who reads this book falls in love with the characters as much as I did. It's just lovely to see such a nice group of friends.
It was a lovely read and I look forward to seeing more of the author's works.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving a honest review and voluntarily. Thanks to the author for this opportunity.

"My full name definitely felt too odd, like it only half fitted me, and did so uncomfortably."

It was a nice book. It toom me a whil because I could get fond to the characters but I always wanted to continue and see how the story develomped.

I quite enjoyed the queer gender identity and sexuality of every character. It's good to see more about kids of the community and seeing them together and happy. It's really important to habe people around you that understand you and support you.

I related at some thing about Alex's gender identity and their anxiety. I really get the vibes from the kdrama weightlifting fairy kim boo-joo and I really loved that as a person who loves the drama and sports. So that's a bonus, I really liked the vibes.

But even if I could relate to the main character I didn't got really attached to them or any other characters beside Uriah. I got a feeling that sometimes conversations between them was forced. Sometimes I got irritated from them because how the characters talked. But this can be a me thing.

And I would loved more the book if I saw more of them being friends mostly at the start when Tate and Uriah joined the duo. And seeing more of their personality.

THIS BOOK!!!

this year's first 5 stars and every single one of them is deserved.

I loved everything about this book, starting from the characters and finishing with the lgbtqia+ representation.

I won't be lying, I picked up this book after seeing one of the author's tweets about the ace rep we would have had and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed at all. every character's struggles with identity and sexuality felt authentic and this is hard to find in books. I could somehow find myself in them, I was really happy with it and it made the reading easier and more pleasant.

overall I would like to see more of these characters and can't wait to read the author's other works ✨️

Review done for @followthereader2016 in French too

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I can't really say that I enjoyed this book because some parts were really hard for me to read (I actually didn't expect to find this subject upsetting) but I think it was well done in it's realism.

I must admit that I had a little trouble with Alex’s character. Her constant angst and questioning of her gender identity made her a character I identified with far too much for me to be comfortable with. I also didn’t expect the passages where she experienced self-hatred to impact me that much. But I must say that these reasons make Alex a very human character.

Since the secondary characters are not the focus of the story, they are less developed and therefore I didn’t really get the chance to get attached to them. I did however really enjoy the diversity of their group and the support they show Alex. Tate is the character that won me over the most. He is a sweetheart, a cinnamon roll, and all I wanted to do was protect him. I also love Uriah and I really hope the author can write his story or that we run into him in another book.

I also found the writing fluid and enjoyable to read. This is a novel that I would recommend to people who are questioning their gender/sexual identity, but also to those who want to better understand the doubts and anxieties that people who are questioning can go through.

plot and writing gets like 2 stars, however the characters get a solid 4.5

The writing was really bad. Like, actually atrocious. Oddly formal and so incredibly cliche.

The characters had no personality. Everyone existed for Alex (the main character), who was annoying and hypocritical and acted out of character many, many times.

The representation was superficial. There were some really messed up sentences about an aromantic character. (See: saying aromantics don’t have “any actual commitment or feelings.”)

There were so many inconsistencies. Overly repetitive writing and what in my opinion was a really ineffective way of sympathizing with people who have anxiety.

At least it was a quick read?

I wanted to like this. I really did.

I loved the idea of a book full of queer athletes in uni but unfortunately, the execution was lacking. The writing isn't great and the plot is non-existent. I also felt like the characters had no personally apart from being their labels. And last but not least, why go to the trouble of inventing a country if the book doesn't actually care about the setting? ? Overall a very long read.

such a good read. deep good queer rep! love it so much

The author kindly provided me with an Arc of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, I want to talk about the chracters. The book mainly follows Alexon their journey of self-discovery, including the struggles that come with it. There were quite a few times, where I had to put my kindle down, because their struggles hit very close to home. It's been quite a while, that I felt so seen in a book
Then we have Tate and he was probably my favourite out of all of the charcters that get introduced. The way he was so utterly supportive throughout the whole book was just amazing. The way he treats his friends and overall communicates also played a huge part in making him my favourite.
All the other characters werev amazing too, but I don't want to make this review extremely long by just gushing over how much I liked the characters.
I do want to mention, that I had one minor issue, which was more of a technical one. Sometimes the sentences felt a bit clunky, which doesn't bother me all too much, it's just something to keep in mind if you have a certain writing style preference.

Overall reading the book was a very fun and sometimes tear jerking expierence. I definitly recommend picking up the book when it comes out, if the topics discussed in the book interest you.
