When I finished this book, I set it aside, and for a moment I just felt puzzled. It took a minute for the pieces to fit together and help me make sense of everything that happened.
That's not to say it's a bad book, not at all. Just that much of the book is built from surreal/magical moments in between grounded moments, and at times when something happens it doesn't feel like there's a rhyme or reason to it, it just happens because magic.
After the pieces fall into place, I think this book holds up better than it first felt like. It's an enjoyable, quick read. At times, it feels a bit like a YA book in its pacing, at other times more like an adult romance where the MCs are figuring things out.
I feel like the story had space to be told, but I feel like I also wanted more from it. There was important healing but so much more we could have learned and in a sense helped heal along with our protagonists.

I absolutely loved A Wolf Steps In Blood! Such a great book with captivating world-building and vivid characters. It also made great use of the "lycanthropy as a metaphor for queerness and self-acceptance" trope that pops up a lot in these kinds of books (not that I'm complaining, I love that trope). My only complaints are that the book deserved to be longer, and I would also have loved sequels or spinoffs set in the same universe.

I really enjoyed the book, I found the characters compelling and the world was really enticing. It made me want to write fanfic based in their world. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because the end felt abrupt, the story was clearly over but I was also left wanting more.

More vibes than plot, but the vibes are good. I loved Jerée's approach to community-oriented magics and her sense of place was cool. The breakneck pacing weakened the romance itself overall, though. It also led to some loredumps and hanging plots, but it's still worth checking this one out.
Minor: Eating disorder
Yasmine occasionally references her binge eating disorder, tied to her disconnection from herself as a wolf. Each mention is brief, but sometimes details what she ate/threw up.
