Hard to rate this one! There was a lot to enjoy here - found the blood magic really interesting, gory feral scenes, and a very different take on werewolves (sort of the reverse, wolf to human).

My main sort-of criticism is that, being a novella, things don't always have enough time to breathe - e.g. the main couple fall together VERY fast, which I know is because of their soulmate-like 'bond', but it still felt too fast.

Fast burn with equal parts spice and gore which was a somewhat surprisingly satisfying combo. There are also some great thoughts/reflections on alienation from one’s body that I enjoyed. I do think a dual pov could’ve popped this up to a 3.5 star, as it would’ve added a lot of depth.

It feels like a fever dream… you can almost taste the magic.

In a way if feels like the magic of the wolf is metaphor for accepting oneself and the magic is coming to terms with grief and loss and creating your own family.
