An enjoyable read, but the British phrases and references felt so obnoxious, total overkill, and some plots/characters felt very wacky. I liked the sex scenes but they definitely weren’t as intense as the first in the series, which I was initially expecting. However, this one did have a more conventional happy ending (even if everything was all a little too convenient…)

I never knew I needed an erotic fantasy series, but this is one of my favorites. It's a little bit weird, but unique.
Our MC is given a priceless artifact of Aphrodite. If she drinks wine from the artifact, she's thrust into a world where she can live out Greek mythology-inspired sexual fantasies.

The Rose intertwines a story set in modern day with Greek mythology. I thought the concept was very intriguing and there was a good balance between Greek mythology and modern day. However, I'm having mixed feelings about the overall book. The writing is just okay. I didn't find myself really invested in Lia and August because there really wasn't that much development between them. I also struggled with the weird mix of the historical tone in a modern setting. The dialogue seemed unrealistic and every time a modern reference was made, it jarringly stood out. I think the story would've been more successful if the author decided to do a Victorian setting or refrained from making modern references that were out of place. I really did enjoy the parts with Greek mythology, but the rest of the story was a bit lacking for me. Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me, but it was still an interesting read.

I treat my romance/smut like I do junk food. I don't quite talk about it even though I occasionally find myself reading them, just like how I don't talk about the time I ate an entire costco size bag of cheddar ruffles in a single sitting while studying for finals but it inevitably happened. But I'm genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed this book. First, the writing was actually pretty good. The storyline was engaging and the inclusion of reimagined greek mythology was so fun! Second, the actual romance between August and Lia was slow-burny (well...an emotional slow-burn, not a physical slow-burn hah), not instant, and not purely defined by sex. Third, consent and boundaries were respected!!! Emotional vulnerability applauded!! I feel like all these three things are sometimes missing from erotica and I was really surprised how well this was done.
