It just dragged on a bit too much for me.
really cozy nice whimsical vibes to it. the main character was a bit annoying w the whole like ohhh im so damaged but im just gonna pretend everything is fine bit. it was a little too in the face and shoved down our throats that he has trauma. also i would’ve liked to know more abt the love interest bc they were together like 24/7 in the book but i still know nothing abt him tbh.
I liked the book. Leo and Grimm are a pair of wonderful protagonists with their flaws. Their romance was slow, and left me on a bit of a cliffhanger (this is a trilogy, after all). I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel.
Only nits with the book that lowered my rating is a bit of the pacing. Some parts felt a bit slow, while some others felt like they rushed by just a bit too quickly. I also think the magic system was a bit hard to understand a bit, but maybe this would be cleared in the future.

I received this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
This was just what I wanted!! I enjoyed every single part of it, and the story is filled with little twists and turns that just had me smiling throughout.
First we have a school set up, and get to spend a little time getting to know Leo and the world. We also quite quickly meet Grimm and get to see the wonderfully banter-filled interactions between them. As the book goes on we very clearly get a picture of how Leo views their relationship and interactions (and how that changes), but I ended up loving how clear it was that Leo is totally unreliable in that regard. We also get deeper motivations and a curse binding him to Grimm, his self proclaimed enemy. I’d love to see all this from Sebastian’s point of view, as there’s hints to how he feels at different points but they never discuss it - one of many MANY reasons I am dying for the next book.
I’m not going to lie, I love a quest book, and the journey of self discovery being part of it was a nice addition. I massively enjoyed their time at the tower, and discovering how well they go together and the power of song spells.
Honestly this was just a great time and I’m dying to know that book two is coming soon! *looks pleadingly at Orbit*
