Dang this was good. I was a little hesitant at first, but it really sucked me in and now I feel a bit desperate for the sequel, which is rare for me.

The main character reminded me so much of The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, and much like in that book it took a while for me to warm up to him. Poor little rich boy acts out and causes his own problems, with no regard for the less privileged people he hurts along the way. But much like in that story, the plot punches him hard to bring out his humility and widen his perspective. The general vibe of the book also reminded me of A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske, so I can see why they modeled the cover in a sort of similar style. This is also the second book I've read this year involving an inadvertent
love spell (the first was A Harvest of Hearts by Andrea Eames)
and I think this case was handled with more depth and intrigue.

The audiobook narrator was excellent, they brought the dialogue to life and really fleshed out the first person perspective.

I was shocked when I looked over and realized I only had about 20 minutes of the book left. While the main plots seem mostly resolved and there was a ton of character growth, this is a slower burn romance than I expected. The romance is the most suspenseful thread I can see; I'm not really sure what's going to happen in terms of the overall plot that would lead to two more books, but I'm happy to find out.

Loved. Love the writing style, the cast of characters, everything. If you have enjoyed the Emily Wilde books, the House In the Cerulean Sea duology, or Legends and Lattes, this book is right on par and you'll love it too.
So look forward to the second!

⭐️⭐️⭐️,5
