This felt like it missed the mark, both as a factually-informed narrative and as sources presented to paint a picture of events. True crime isn’t my genre of choice typically, so perhaps I’m just not au fait enough with the genre to judge, but it really wasn’t for me

A bit dry, but this had to have been a lot of work to put together. It's full of the actual journal articles, police reports, and trail transcripts. Super interesting and frustratingly intriguing as we'll never really know all the answers.

But we want to be tried by a jury of our peers. We mean a jury of women, not by our lords and masters. All of the men who have dealt against us are like grown-up children.

SpoilerEven though it seems likely that Caroline Martin played a role in Ocey Snead's death,
this book highlights how strong, intelligent women were often vilified. This case would be a great topic for an in-depth feminist analysis--how sexism and gender roles factored into people's actions at every level of this case, and impacted the final outcome.
