Maybe I had unrealistic expectations for this book after loving Today Tonight Tomorrow and enjoying The Ex Talk as much as I did. This was just “okay” to me for no one specific reason, but several small things that felt contrived.

I am very disappointed in this book. When I read the description I thought, this is something I need in my life right now. A cute, original, romantic book. I thought after reading the description that this would be a different novel than all the others. Well with some cliché elements, but this was so different than I thought it would be.
This is a book I will soon forget. As mean as that sounds, it wasn't really a memorable book. The beginning was okay, but I was mostly annoyed with the main character named Quinn. I did like that there was some open communication about OCD in the book, which Quinn herself suffers from. It's just that she's not sympathetic at all. One moment she sounded like a small child, the next moment I thought she could have been a lot older. I also really didn't like the way Quinn treated Tarek.
And after literally telling him that she never wants to try to make it work between them, she has the nerve to ask him to stay with her. I knew she had to be the one to make a romantic gesture at the end, but this was a moment where I really thought, seriously?! Her 'big' reveal at the end was just too late and too sudden. Her 'big' reveal was also so bad and the speech was so inappropriate. You don't give a speech like that at someone else's wedding. I'm also not convinced that she has really changed her mind about relationships.
My biggest irritations were with Quinn and how she kept waving away important conversations.
"I want to be in the moment."
"I like it too much to think about it right now."
"I figured I'd deal with it later."
She just didn't want to deal with it, while that is so important in a relationship.
It feels like the writer wanted to be very inclusive, maybe a little too inclusive. This may sound a little weird, but I felt like it wasn't always realistic. I think Canette's review explains this very well.
I am glad that they soon started sharing personal things with each other, in some books people lie to each other to be perfect. Also, in most books, you often have to wait a long time for this and it wasn't that bad. Besides, I had never read a book where eczema was discussed openly.

I think it was a sweet coming-of-age story, there were aspects and ideas I enjoyed. Didn't always love the execution though.
Unfortuntely, I too hate grand gestures, so I cringed a lot.
I thought the MCs were refreshing, I appreciated the specificity of their backgrounds. I just got a little over both of their black-and-white worldviews.
I liked their dynamic in theory, but with these two, I just never felt the spark... I think they should've been friends at the end.

This is a very cute YA book. I love the representation of mental health struggles, LGBTQ, and Jewish and Muslim communities. The lead female character, Quinn, makes a few very frustrating decisions, but it accurately depicts a person her age.
