things she would not shut up about:

his eczema (to the point where I was starting to feel offended on his behalf)
her parents being separated for six whole months ten years ago

This book was really sweet but at the same time hard-hitting. Solomon did a fantastic job tackling a handful of tough topics, but especially mental health and family trauma, and how they often come hand-in-hand.

The importance of family and how your family can impact your decision making was definitely my favorite part of the book. I loved how realistic the family dynamics were because this book shows how you can love your family but it is not always easy or perfect. That you can feel separate and how your family may not realize that fact or how their actions have impacted your life.

Also Quinn and Tarek were just fantastic together.

Overall this book was great, but I didn't fully connect with any of the characters.

This entire book could have been avoided if the main heroine had just asked her parents "what's happened?" ten years ago. I'm a bit skeptical about the plot. I did like the representation, the small details of anxiety and mental glitches. But the theme of being afraid to talk to one's parents seems too simplistic for my taste.

Rachel Lynn Solomon has easily become one of my favorite authors. I love her Jewish representation, her character development, and the feel-good romances in her coming-of-age stories. This book has all of that along with weddings, cakes, and second chances.

Quinn is a bit torn about working with her family, but her questions become even more pronounced as she’s forced to face her feelings for Tarek, as their families have worked together for years – and this summer, they’re forced to work within close proximity fairly often. But while she tries to keep her feelings to herself, other truths start to spill out.

Quinn and Tarek have a lot to figure out in their own lives, but they somehow manage to make it both easier and harder for one another. Even still, neither would pass up the chance to spend time together if they had the choice.

The struggle of coming to terms with not only how you feel, but what you want to do with your life was incredibly realistic and made my heart ache for all the teenagers struggling with these same challenges every day.

There's something about this book that made it feel like a filler. Nothing happened. It's a good filler book! It's just boring. Solomon can just be like that though, it seems a common occurrence in her books where you really can't connect to the characters unless you are in the exact circumstance that they are. Filled with the words smallest problems and cowards as MCs that make it hard to root for them. Sometimes, you just wanna watch the cake fall.
