holy shit, rereading this ten-plus years after i first read it was a trip. it's all lady-on-lady misogyny and romanticization of masculine shit, with a heavy dash of second-wavey goddess worship?

I return to this classic book again and again. The writing is beautiful, the imagery is spectacular and the story is captivating. Although quite long, this marvelous book moves quickly and is hard to put down. A must-read for Arthurian enthusiasts.

LOVED this book. Although the writing kind of falls apart toward the end (as though the author got tired after 800+ pages), the different spin on the over-familiar Arthurian legend was so refreshing!

A little depressing. I found myself getting bored by the end and just wanting it to be over. Some good elements with the conflict between the old religion and new, and how people think about religion, and create us vs them situations. Overall a bit disappointing.

I liked this book, but there were many times when it dragged on with too much repetition. I liked how the characters were multi-dimensional and shaped by their experiences.

I enjoyed reading the legend of King Arthur exclusively from the women's perspectives. My biggest complaint was that the ongoing and frequently conflicting inner monologues of several characters grew increasingly confusing and frustrating as the book wore on. That being said, I enjoyed how richly drawn the characters were and it was gratifying to see the characters age, mature, and grow. Fantasy fans would enjoy.

I read this as a very young lady, and all those wacky/gross sex scenes completely freaked me out. Which means I really should go back and make sense of it as an adult - because - what a genius concept!
