Updated: I read this book before knowing the controversy behind MZB, if you don't know, she was found to be a perpetrator of child abuse, one the the children being her own daughter. We tell corporations, publisher, and people with power what we want or at least what we will accept by what we spend our money on. I removed my rating of this because I don't want to mislead other readers to purchase this book without further research. With the above knowledge, you can see the confusion and contradictions of her writing this book.
Original Review:
The Characters are well developed and deep with flaws and beauty all intertwined. I was pulled into it right away and stayed with it until I finished. A must read for anyone who likes Arthurian legend, witches, subtle magical systems, whispers of dragons, political strife, and women.

My most favourite book ever, genuinely shaped my mind completely and wholey forever
I first read this book in middle school. It was the first book to date that I had finished in 3 days. It's still one of my favorites.

This is definitely a 5/5 books except I found it 200 pages too long. I was really pushing at the end to finish even though I loved the story.

An enthralling retelling of the Arthurian legend from the viewpoint of Morgaine. Epic.
I didn't finish this book in 2011 and don't plan on doing so in 2012. I probably wouldn't have read as much as I did had I not been moderating it for a book group I am in. I love the premise, I love the first 150ish pages and then...well, it felt more like an anti-religious, feminist agenda than a retelling of the Arthurian legend; a legend I love deeply by the way. And, maybe that's the problem, I didn't realize I loved the story as much as I do until reading a book that turns it on it's head. I do like books about female power and don't mind anti-religious feeling and thought, I just don't like it disguised in a work of fiction...oh, unless it's by Ayn Rand than sign me up!
