The cover might remind me of a Kiera Cass book, but the content does not. The library description I read didn’t prepare me for the content. Age gaps, especially with a minor, are a big turn off for me. I kept reading because the premise of the characters and the prologue could have been interesting, but  it only got increasingly unappealing to me (see content warnings).

There is an age gap that is more extreme because

the entire plot hinges on a man in his mid/late twenties being sexually obsessed with a barely-sixteen year old girl for a decade.

There is also mention and some description of sex between

half siblings and between one of those half-siblings and the other’s step-sibling.

One character is dominant and

enjoys inflicting pain (belt-whipping, not like a couple cute spanks) on sexual partners, to the point where another character cries through most or all of the sex scenes.

I was honestly surprised at the type of writing this book had. For a spicy series, I was not expecting the in-dept paragraphs or character developments, or the plot, which was continuous. From start to finish, I was captivated. Descriptive, mature, and very well-written, this book (and series), takes you on a rollercoaster. I absolutely am a favorite of this author now.

This was not my thing. Kind of already expected it but wanted to give it a try anyway (only because of some hype on bookstagram/booktok). Not going to read the rest of the series. Too much politic and military talk (and praise) and bible quotes for my taste.

Ash is always very dominant and possessive. Greer is kind of a doormat to everyone, especially her "best friend" who really isn't a friend at all. She's a jealous arrogant mean bitch. The only lovable characters to me were Ash's assistant and Embry.
