The book is pretty complex. I highly recommend to take notes while reading. Mark characters, their storylines, important events, themes, reoccuring items (for ex. the paperweight). It'll be easier to look back on them (characters often refer to them) and to see how they are conected.

Though this book is marketed as dystopian at first, it takes a reflective and emotional look into the aftermath of an apocalypse with fascinating glimpses into life before and how it affects those who survived. It was very different from most dystopian that I’ve read before and I loved the reflective nature of it!!

Oh wow I liked this even better than The Plague by Camus. It's good though that I read this in Year three instead of in 2020, because it hits super close to home. It contains all the trigger warnings as well.
This book confronts you with how thin the veneer of society is, but in a way that keeps you engaged until the end of the book. It isn't just survival horror, it's a lot of reflection on the gray zones in life and how we generally fill our lives.
