Great! This was such a unique idea for a story and I've never seen anything quite like it before. I can't decide if I loved or hated the ending because it was so abrupt but I think it works the more time I have to process it. I am glad that there's finally a sequel though because this world is fascinating and I'd love to see more!

Wool, also by Hugh Howey, is one of my favorite books of all time, and I'd been meaning to pick up his next series forever... but there are too many books in the world. While I don't think The Sand Chronicles is as compelling as his previous series, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed Sand.
The world is covered in Sand (for an unknown reason) and sand divers traverse the deep depths of the sand to salvage lost resources. The story follows a family trying to stay alive in this desolate world years after their father/husband left to explore the wider world.
While I enjoyed the world, it wasn't well fleshed out (I still don't understand where food actually comes from in such a desolate world), and the family dynamics were interesting but again more surface level. Overall, Sand is a solid start to a series, and I've already picked up book two.
