It's a decent premise with an average execution.

This book was quite a disappointment. Set quite some indeterminate time after Dust, the world is covered in...sand. Miles of it, high and deep. The story follows a family of sand divers as they seek Danvar, a buried ancient city of skyscrapers. And that's kind of it.

Overall, the book is a lot coarser than the previous Wool books, quite a lot of swearing and harsh living conditions. I actually struggle to find something really positive to say as the book just feels empty. Devoid of any plot or drive or threat.

Maybe this is written like a pilot for a new series, lots of backstory. Either way, it didn't work for me and I won't be reading anymore.

The idea of diving through sand was very intriguing! I thought it was creative and the story had a plot that I enjoyed. It definitely left me imagining what would happen next in the characters' lives.
