Definitely not your typical John Grisham novel, but I mostly enjoyed it. I'm not a basketball fan and there is a LOT of basketball in this book. I loved the main character. Wasn't expecting what happened, but loved the ending.

A wonderful, but heartbreaking story!!!

Week 18 Book 26
Sooley by John Grisham
Rating: 2/5

Past few books by one of my fav authors, have not been satisfying. I enjoyed No Time For Mercy but Sooley by John Grisham is disappointing.

Sooley is about ambition and hope. About a young boy called Sooleyman from Civil war torn Sudan with a dream to become a professional basketball player in America.
It chronicles his journey and everything that he and his family have to go through.

This book is different from a usual law based Grisham book. It is not only centred around sports and professional management of sportspersons in America, it also talks about the difficult lie in Sudan and the effects of civil war.

This book had quite the potential but unfortunately for me, didn't work out. Despite the attempt to be different, it was shallow. There was too much description of matches. Id have preferred to read more about the protagonist and his family. It's strictly a one time read.
