The last time I tried Dune, it was in high school, when a regular substitute teacher gave me the entire set of the series. I got maybe five pages in and thought it was impossible. After almost a decade of the books staring me in the face, I'm glad I picked it back up. The beginning was still a slow start, but once I got into it, I got deep into it. An amazing story, a great cast of characters, everything was great.

The best science fiction book of all time, and my personal favorite book of all time. Absolutely breathtaking from beginning to end. The plot had me engaged the entire time and the character development was immense. This book covers so many themes and messages that are interwoven so clearly and cleanly. Such a thought provoking text that lingers in my mind constantly. Essential science fiction reading.

there is no doubt as to why this book is so influential among scifi today. it originated and solidified many tropes that still run strong today and its worldbuilding is unparalleled.

i just. didn't find it all that compelling on its own...

the book was not to my personal tastes, and that's fine! i didn't find myself very invested in any of the characters except maybe gurney, and i was disappointed by nearly every character resolution, which i think is by design. real life isn't supposed to end in a satisfying way. however, i did read the entire damn thing, so i think i'm allowed to dislike it when compared to my own tastes as a story rather than a work of literature lol

My friend promised to read The Locked Tomb series if I read Dune. They admitted that they were never actually gonna do that, so I stopped reading. Not a bad book, just not a book for me personally.
