Space politics—and this is definitely not really sci-fi, more of a space opera, which is basically fantasy in space. Not my cup of tea.

I can see why this is a classic among science fiction novels. Still, at times I felt it dragged on for too long and there was way too much "forced immersion" right out the gate that made me have to stop and understand by context what was being talked about (yes, I know there's a glossary at the end, but it's really uncomfortable to use)

It's clear why Dune is a staple of Science Fiction, and after reading the story, I see why people would say it would be very hard to adapt to film (until the 2021 film). While the overall timeline of the book is very fast, there are massive time jumps that can be jarring at times. The worldbuilding, politics and goals of the story truly stand on its own within Sci Fi. I found myself really enjoying the first half of the book, but as the second half continued, it became a bit too confusing and hard to get through.
