Every story in this collection is kind of perfect.

had really high hopes but didn’t love this. some stories were great but most were a bit forgettable. lovely writing though, just not as profound and i had expected. this has definitely made me realise i’m not that into short stories so that’s something

hearts and bones by niamh mulvey dives into the various kinds of love spanning from the years of childhood and adulthood, through the eyes of the present and more so the reminiscence.

though this short story collection enticed me with mulvey’s lyrically beautiful writing, i’m afraid that not many of the stories truly captivated me as i had hoped it would be. i did thoroughly enjoyed some of the stories such as the first and last of the collection as well as one of the parts in “the doll”. but aside from that i truly couldn’t find myself to care of the other stories as much. it’s frustrating that the writing is so beautiful but the “plot” of the short stories i guess you could say – completely threw me off the ride and felt mostly boring.

perhaps it had to do with my current emotional and mental state these days that affects my reading as i often find myself immensely exhausted at the end of the day. i surely have taken quite a bit of time finishing this book despite how thin it is. but overall, nothing fully satisfied me at all and the book is just fine. i have a feeling lovers of short stories would find this book entertaining and interesting of a read indeed but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.

thank you as always to definitely books by pansing for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I'm normally not a big fan of short stories but this was class. The majority of female POV's, the vibes, the pure Irish-ness of it all!
