Not as good as the first book, but still a fun read about a crazy grandma and the antics she gets into with her granddaughter. Isaac laughed out loud more than once and got a little picture of a very different life and time.

This is a fantastic book!! Grandma Dowdel and Mary Alice are quite a pair. I liked this more than the prequel, "A Long Way From Chicago"; that book made me smile but this made me smile, laugh out loud, and shed tears.

Honestly one of my favorite books from childhood. I read it every couple of years and it makes me real sentimental

Loved this story! Read this before I read A Long Way from Chicago. I think this might be the first book that I thoroughly enjoyed and still remember the general plot. Definitely one of those first books that made me love reading so much. Grandma is hilarious.
adventurous funny lighthearted medium-paced

When I heard Richard Peck's had died back in May, I decided that I needed to read his books over my summer vacation. I nabbed this one from my library before summer check out to ensure I had it. A Long Way From Chicago had already been borrowed. I read it in one go this morning and I just loved it. There is something about stories with grandmother's that I just love. Especially ones who are clever and ornery. I loved how you never quite knew why she was doing something until the big reveal. Just perfect. Some very funny moments and some really touching ones. The end made me cry.

I loved it; such a sweet coming of age story, that will make you nostalgic and laugh outloud. Mary Alice's Grandma is a hoot!

Oh my gosh, the audiobook of this downright delightful story is narrated by Lois Smith. What an absolute treat!

We liked the first one better, but it is still a fun story.

This sequel to A Long Way From Chicago does not disappoint. The characters stay true to form, and the stories are as witty and heartwarming as those from the first book. I hated to see it end!
