I love the steampunk setting! It feels really refreshing in the historical fantasy genre. It's funny, adventurous and cute. It sets a great ground for the rest of the series and I can't wait to pick up the next book!
To me it's problematic and gross that they known each other while Chang Geng was a minor and fell in lover years later.
That and being distant cousins, and that Shen Shiliu views Cheng Geng as his son. That and that he's his god father.

I’ve read this 3 times and it’s still so good. It starts off slow, but that’s what you would expect with a writer like Priest. She takes her time to develop her characters and the world.
Steampunk is a new course for me and I'm still adapting to it, i have been reading xianxia only. However, the story is quite interesting despite I'm not a fan of political issues. For book 1, it's worth to read. Also, Gu Yun has great sense of humor
