I felt like I traveled to 10 different cities while reading this. I actually burned through most of it on a rainy day and lived vicariously through the characters. This is a good "best friends to lovers" trope if that's what you're in the mood for but more than that, it truly does take you away from the real world and that's one of my favorite things about reading.
A fluffy beach read featuring two common tropes - 1) friends turn to lovers, 2) opposites attract - that didn't feel totally stale.
Enjoyed Poppy and Alex's back-and-forth on past summer trips - gave me Gilmore Girl (Rory and Loralei banter) vibes.
Hated how unrealistic Alex's character was and how I kept expecting some explosive/dramatic/over-the-top event to have happened in Croatia to cause the break in their friendship... they just kissed and got confused/sent mixed signals about what they wanted. The ending also dragged on post-airport scene.
All in all and fun, fast read depicting unrealistic love stories that make you feel good despite knowing that... if you're into these kind of books. 3.5⭐️

I went into this a little skeptical but I really enjoyed this one! I picked this up in bookshop in Paris because it was one of the only titles I recognized and I'm so happy I did. I'm a HUGE fan of the friends to lovers trope so this was right up my alley. Also just found out there's a film coming out with Tom Blyth as Alex?! I cannot wait to watch Alex and Poppy's antics unfold on screen in January. The ending did kind of drag a bit which is why I didn't give it 4.5+ stars but I adored the rest. I'm probably going to re-read before the end of the year just because.

Eine schöne emotionale Liebesgeschichte. Ich fand es war weniger Comedy, aber viel mehr Romance. Poppy mochte ich sehr, ihr struggle im Leben und auch die Bekämpfung ihres Traumas aus der Kindheit, haben mich sehr berührt. Die Liebesgeschichte war ganz schön, aber auch geprägt von fehlender Kommunikation. Für mich war es eine schöne Urlaubslektüre.
Poppy en Alex gaan elk jaar samen op zomertrip. Ze reizen met een budget, een klein budget. Elk jaar zien ze de mooiste plaatsen en ontmoeten de puurste mensen. Poppy is een flapuit en wilt het liefst altijd aan het reizen zijn. Alex is een boekenworm die vroeg opstaat om naar de fitness te gaan. Ze zijn zo verschillend, maar ze maken van die ene week per jaar een fantastische, onvergetelijke week.
In het boek lees je over alle zomertrips die ze al hebben gemaakt met daartussen hoofdstukken over deze zomer, de zomer waarvoor ze twee jaar niet met elkaar gepraat hebben. Het begin is nogal traag en er gebeurt niet zo veel. Iets wat ik wel een beetje gewend ben van Emily Henri. Toch leer je doorheen de verschillende tripjes de band tussen Poppy en Alex kennen en wil je weten waarom ze een tijdje niet met elkaar hebben gepraat. Ze plagen elkaar en hebben elke zomertrip zo hun inside jokes die niemand anders in de hele wereld snapt.
Je hoort weleens dat mensen zeggen dat je iemand pas echt leert kennen op vakantie: dat gevoel had ik nu ook met Poppy en Alex. Ze zijn enkel zichzelf als ze bij elkaar zijn en dat merk je als lezer ook. Helaas is het boek voorspelbaar en kom je niet voor verrassingen te staan. Persoonlijk vind ik dat altijd jammer. Ik hou van een goede plottwist en ben minder fan van die comfort zone waarin Emily Henri graag schrijft. People we meet on vacation is zeker een aanrader als je op zoek bent naar een luchtig boek!

Everybody really loves Emily Henry, so I was really hoping to love this book! However, I found myself very, very frustrated by Poppy and Alex a lot of the time. The writing did not always land with me, and the jokes even less so. I mostly found myself being irritated by the way the characters moved around each other. I found it very hard to connect to the characters in the way I hoped I would. Sometimes, though, while reading, I did find a line that was written to be unbelievably tender. I am gonna try another Emily Henry book and hope I end up loving that one more if not I think she's a good writer even if this particular romance did not land with me!
