I thought it was a fun premise for a book/ series... witch trials (think Hunger Games) to see who would be the coven leader, but the author needs an editor. All that being said, I started the second book.
Not bad overall. I wish the relationship was built up more, it was very instalovey and you don’t really understand WHY they fall for each other. At times I wished she was with Greg instead.
Magic system is interesting.

2.5 stars. Such a flawed FMC. So many terrible decisions. Such a disappointing ending. I won’t be reading the next one.

The Unmarked Witch started with a murder and curse, and then the events spiraled from there. While jumping into the action usually works to engage, it seemed slower as it felt like there was a lack of character development and as a reader I was not able to get attached to any of the characters until further into the book (about 30% in). Once in, the trials Raven goes through with her friends open her eyes to the reality of the world and that everything isn't what she was fed when she was growing up. With that, the man she has deemed her biggest enemy her entire life is now the man she can't stay away from. I am glad I stuck with this book, as the trials provided the character and relationship development I wanted. This is a real enemies-to-lovers romantasy, and ends on a BIG cliffhanger. Book two of the duology is The Unbound Witch, and I will be glad to jump into that because the cliffhanger...! The narrator did a good job and book one was single POV, and I hope that continues into book two.
4 Stars
I did REALLY enjoy this book. Learning about all of the different types of witches, shifters, wraiths, all of it. The only issue (why I took back 1 star) was how quickly the Dark King took a liking to her just because she was mouthy.
Other than that though, I really liked Grey from the beginning, I'm not sure what it was about him but he was reasonable. I also, enjoyed the Dark King. The others however, I wanted to smack people throughout this entire book for being so stupid- including Raven sometimes.
If you like witchy books, this book is a good one to grab as it was an easy read with the world building since fantasy can get kind of wild.

The overall story line is really interesting and a 5/5 read (if I'd read it)
For the love of god avoid the audible audiobook version as the narrator sounded robotic and the vocal attempts at male characters had me emotionally disconnected and laughing at how cringe it was when it was supposed to be a tense or romantic scene.
Writing quality: 3/5. Some really cringe dialogue at times but otherwise worldbuilding was done pretty well without excessive info dumps and not excessively descriptive/waffly writing which I appreciated.
Spice: Probably a
