this book was essentially haunting adeline except if zade was a priest, not a hacker. it followed the exact same storyline except there was somehow a love triangle? the pacing was off, the characters had little to no motivation, and i was furthermore extremely disappointed in the use of a safe word that the mmc ignored. a lot of scenes like that felt irrelevant and unnecessary. this book could have been great because of how good the spice was, but unfortunately the rest of it did not follow through.

I didn’t like the book. The sex scenes were good, but there wasn’t any real difference between characters, and even in a dark romance, the fact that the safe word wasn’t respected really rubbed me the wrong way, that should’ve been my cue to DNF. I stuck around for the child trafficking subplot, but it got rushed at the end. The romance didn’t feel like love, just lust (which the book admits, to be fair), and the FMC’s trauma from her college rape felt under-addressed. There should be a tonal shift when that kind of reveal happens, but the story moves on instead. I did like the raised stakes when the mom died during the trafficking subplot, but overall, this isn’t a book I’d recommend.

What I did like was the MMC, the town, the premise, the kink. What I didn’t like was the insta-love, weirdly fast timeline, and the ending felt super super rushed. It’s like of like if That Sik Luv + Hunting Adeline had a baby but half the length. Not bad, not amazing! I enjoyed the spice and the world and I will def give the next book a go!!

I was so so excited to read this after seeing the snippets shared by the author on tiktok.. it seems she shared the best lines bc for me, it fell so flat. personally, this felt like a drag the first 90% and random plot thrown into the very end for a twist, that is wrapped up and solved in like 10 pages. this would be a great dark romance (per say) for beginners or someone looking to dip their toes in, but not for someone well versed in dark romance
