4.5 stars. This author was new to me and I’m looking forward to reading more. Great narration. This was a dual timeline story. Well done, easy to follow.  The author depicted the essences of the different time periods quite well. The book was engaging. The ending was perfect. Loved the characters, one of my favorites was Miss Helen in the latter timeline. She was still commanding, but mellowed toward the end and would laugh at herself. The author’s notes are worth reading if you enjoy history.  Highly recommend.

I liked the story in total but most of the time it was so slow. Two timelines and lots of details, only one location, interesting characters and something like a fairytale ending. Ok but not a highlight for me.

The historical accuracy was awesome! Definitely read the author's note at the end of the book.
All questions were answered by the end of the novel.
The ending was a bit rushed and unlikely, but overall I enjoyed the time spent reading this.
