The Magnolia Palace was the first book by Fiona Davis I picked up, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The premise brought me in: it seemed like there would be a good historical mystery within the pages. And while I enjoyed the world and mystery, after finishing I shrugged and said to myself, "it was okay." It ended in a satisfactory way, but it didn't feel like anything outstanding or life-changing. It was a good, easy read; a read that one might breeze through while traveling via airplane and then never think about again.

Was a bit disappointed in this story as I really enjoyed other books by this author. However very informative of life during this time period.

The Magnolia Palace by Fiona Davis is a wonderfully told story about the Fricks family in maybe my favorite historical fiction book to date.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it was a relief from most of my current fiction books as the characters are not thoroughly twisted and there is at the core of this story a message about good and bad and the light is shining on decency of human behavior
I enjoyed all the research she did on Frick Museum in NYC (my home) and the characters of Mr and Mrs Frick and their daughter Helen. It was brilliantly interwoven and I just loved every word every scene - she is an outstanding writer whose books I will always read..
