“She was upset to cover up her body when others would be filled with shame to reveal it”

Okay let’s dive in-
The beginning was kinda slow but still really good I got hooked more towards the end. If you’re looking for romance this isn’t for you. It’s more based on the plot and this girl manages to navigate her life with out her mom

There is a side plot with romance that is very adorable.

Don’t be thrown off by it going to the future and past the author does an amazing job intertwining them.

Also lily and Helen’s friend ship is everything I adore this book so much! And the meaning behind it, what I feel the book is about is ‘never being ashamed of who you are’

I really liked this book! It may sound a bit trite, but it was just such a nice, enjoyable book. Yes, there was some strife and conflict throughout the book, it never felt overbearing or made me feel the characters' anxieties. Not having read much in the way of fiction before, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the parallel plots, but it definitely worked for The Magnolia Palace. The ending wrapped up just a bit too nicely for me, but that didn't take away from the overall feeling I got from the book at all. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a pleasant and enjoyable read.

I adore the work of Fiona Davis so was delighted when Book of the Month offered her newest (out Jan 25) as a selection. Davis is the queen of historical fiction mysteries that pull readers in from page one. I had a hard time putting this one down to attend to life-things.

The book travels between 1919 and 1966 NYC. In 1919, readers meet Lillian Carter who has recently lost her mother in the Spanish flu outbreak. For the past six years, under the “stage name” Angelica, Lillian was one of the most sought-after artists’ models in New York City, with statues based on her figure gracing landmarks from the Plaza Hotel to the Brooklyn Bridge. But with her mother’s passing, Lillian’s grief is overwhelming and she finds herself in the center of scandal. Lillian, however, stumbles into a position at the Frick mansion as private secretary to the volatile Helen Frick. And this family is full of all the drama and this story has everything from romantic trysts to stolen jewels, and some life or death family drama that runs so deep

Nearly fifty years later, English model Veronica Weber finds herself with a make or break modeling job at the former Frick residence, now converted into a NYC museum. The job doesn’t go as planned but she meets up with intern Joshua and the two begin unraveling the Frick family secrets of the past.

I enjoyed this book but I feel like it wrapped up a little too perfectly if that makes sense. Like all the characters’ problems were solved in literally 1 page. Problems not even relating to the main story at all, just everything was solved. Still a fun read but the end annoyed me a bit.

Enjoyed this story and how both timelines ended up coming together. I enjoyed that it was one of the few historical fiction books not based around a war. The characters were engaging and made me either love or hate them. I enjoyed the bit of mystery to it too. I did feel like the tone changed in the last couple chapters and was maybe trying too hard to wrap everything up nice and prettily

the dual POV in the book is absolutely seamless and you have to keep reading the book until its done just to unravel both mysteries. lovely.
