I just adore the cover of this historical fiction novel. It’s what initially drew me in but the storytelling kept me immersed. I loved the dual timelines. Following Lillian’s unorthodox life was captivating. She had been through so much in such a short timespan. I was rooting for her the whole way through. I was equally invested in the modern day plotline that intertwined the past with the present in a very compelling way. This book is full of betrayal, murder, mystery, and forgiveness. I found myself turning the pages with excitement as each enthralling tidbit was revealed. This was my first Fiona Davis novel but it will not be my last.

In a phrase - good but too neat. Liked the writing style, I may check out more of Fiona Davis' work because of that. But I did feel like everything was wrapped up too neatly at the end. What can I say, I love angst. For example
I can't see a world where Helen and Lillian would be friends like they were at the end. Also Helen's basically solving all of Veronica's family problems - puhhlese.
I would recommend this book based on the writing and if you want a historical fiction that concludes in a positive way and has minimal angst and stress.
