You know, it’s so easy to forget that people posed for the marble statues that are around.
2.5 stars. Kinda boring, kinda blah. The mystery part of the storyline was introduced way too late in terms of pacing and then it felt hurried. The part of the storyline set in the 60s was just...dumb. Wouldn't read again and almost gave up on it!
I felt a little mislead by the description that promised of intrigue, murder, and an elaborate sleuthing expedition when the vast majority of this book was actually just family drama. Still it was a decent audiobook and I like the historic fiction aspects of it.

I love the Frick Museum, and have often wondered about the family who lived there, so I jumped at the opportunity to read a story set there. I enjoyed it. Not as strong as her other books, but it was a good read.
tbh I was a little surprised by how much I loved this one! I’m usually not a fan of historic fictions that bounce between two story lines but Magnolia Palace has absolutely changed my opinion on that! It was really well-written and woven two story lines together beautifully
This book was so fun and makes me want to go back to nyc to visit the Frick house. I loved the flash back and forth between the two time periods. The end was a bit to easy and neatly wrapped up but all in all a great read.
Fiona Davis is one of my favorite authors, and the Magnolia Palace does not disappoint. Basing her stories on historical buildings in New York City, and then creating narratives around real life figures delivers an absorbing and exciting novel. Lillian is known in NYC as Angelica, a muse for many of the famous statues throughout Manhattan. After her mother dies of the Spanish flu of 1917, Lillian finds herself in the Frick mansion. The Fricks are extremely wealthy, with sharp and often abrasive personalities; Lillian becomes Helen Frick’s personal secretary, hiding her past. Fast forward fifty years, to 1966, when a young model gets caught in a snowstorm and is locked in the Frick mansion with an archivist, Joshua. The Frick mansion is a museum, with secrets of betrayals, murder and more. The stories come together in an interesting way. I highly recommend this book, particularly if you love historical fiction.
