We read this before seeing the new movie based on/inspired by the book. Caitlyn insisted she was enjoying it but I'm not completely convinced; it didn't seem to have her totally hooked in. Could have been the sparse illustrations in this edition (nothing like the lush world in the movie version). Could have been the age of the story, and its temporal setting - there may be more to relate to here if you've a passing familiarity with upper middle class habits and expectations circa 1890. That said, it's a classic and *I* enjoyed it.
I really liked this book, there’s a reason it’s called a classic and how it’s stood the testament of time. Read this book while I was away on holiday. Beautiful plot and lovely characters. I’d definitely recommend 5/5!

We wanted to read this after watching The Secret Life of Arriety, both the movie and the book are enjoyable.
Not gonna lie, this was super boring until the last few chapters. It dragged on and gave way too much unnecessary detail instead of plot.
4.5+/5 Charming and I liked the mysterious feeling to it. Would have liked it to have more to the whole story but it is a series so that's good. Looking forward to reading more! Didn't like how characters seemed to be "angry" a lot.
What a beautiful book. I would have adored this had I read it as a child, but I was perhaps too young when I did own a copy, so I’m glad I have read it now.
A great little book, lots of little lessons. Something to read to your kids before bed.
