I read The Borrowers when I was a kid, and I was excited to read it to Delphine because it was one of the books which formed my "pop culture" as a child. We didn't have a TV and we didn't see a lot of movies, so most of our family references and in-jokes were about books, and you can imagine the borrowers were often invoked when things went missing.
It was a pleasure to read this to Delphine. The language is lovely and the characters are well-rounded and interesting, and it's fun to imagine how tiny people would use big people's things. (Although a lot of the things they use are not commonly found in modern houses: a cotton spool? A pocket watch?)
Delphine liked it too, and she wants to read the sequels.

Pretty solid story to share with children. Nothing too unique to point out. Nothing great, but nothing bad, either. The kids might like it if they can get past some antiquated language.

Vain 149 sivua pitkä tarina on pelkkä intro todelliselle seikkailulle, sillä Kätkijät-kirjoja on englanniksi yhteensä 5 kpl. Pitkälle ei valitettavasti tässä muutaman sivun pituisessa kirjassa päästy. Idea pienistä ihmisistä, jotka asustelevat kodin koloissa on mielestäni suloista ja erilaisten tavaroiden hyötykäyttö kätkijöiden taloudessa oli hauskaa lueskeltavaa.
Näin lyhyestä kertomuksesta ei voi kyllä paljon sanoa, sillä seikkailu ei ehtinyt alkaakaan, kun sivut jo loppuivat. Harmi. Arietta vaikutti suloiselta ja nokkelalta tytöltä, kun taas ihmispoika vaikutti todella ärsyttävältä kakaralta, joka aiheutti peukaloisperheelle suuria huolen aiheita.

Herttainen satu pienen pienistä ihmisistä. Pidin ideasta, joka oli kuitenkin ennestään jo täysin tuttu, onhan kirjan pohjalta tehty jo elokuviakin. Erittäin suuresti minua kiinnostaa Studio Ghiblin (mm. Henkien kätkemä) uusi anime-elokuva, jonka ensi-ilta täällä suomessa oli 28.10. Elokuva näyttää trailerin perusteella sisältävän enemmän kuin tämä kirja ja tarinan suloisuus tulee varmasti myös kivasti esiin.
