Overall I enjoyed this book, but I think I shouldn’t have read it during a heatwave. I had a hard concentrating in the beginning, but it got better as I kept reading

Reminded me a lot of “The Ferryman”, which is probably why I enjoyed this so much. A slow burn.

3.5 :)

A good introduction to the Troubles for someone whose knowledge of it is limited. I found Michael unlikeable so struggled to get fully invested in the relationship. It also felt like there was a lack of emotion in the book, it was more a series of events (with the exception of Cushla and Davys relationship). That being said, I was pretty hooked towards the end. I did find it a bit predictable (some obvious foreshadowing), though I don’t think the point of this novel was to be a romance page turner.

My only knowledge about the Troubles comes from Derry Girls, so it was time to expand that knowledge.
None of the characters were really likable. But I think they conveyed the horrible things that happened during this period pretty good.
(As someone with little prior knowledge, the abbreviations are a bit hard to place sometimes)
