I rarely write reviews but I loved this. I’m a child of the Troubles and it instantly took me back. The dialogue in particular. And it reminded me that I grew up thinking all the violence and being hyper aware of your side or the other was normal. It really wasn’t. This book captures the everyday lives people lived through tenderly. I’d highly recommend to anyone who grew up in Northern Ireland.

i cried a lot during this book, and i loved it throughout. the characters are so real, and so well etched out - they're unlikable, but lovable; the
little detail about the arms being askew broke my mind
I also went into a video night about the history of Northern Ireland.
thank you to Louise Kennedy for this tragedy

Enjoyed the story eventually but took me ages to get into this book- found it very slow and took me months to finish

Some parts felt slow. Sad we got no resolution with Gina and Eammon. Love that we start in the present, go back in time, and then end where we started. Didn’t like Michael but it’s tragic. Poor, poor Davy. Gina helping Cushla towards the end felt very human and was beautiful to read.
