Some parts felt slow. Sad we got no resolution with Gina and Eammon. Love that we start in the present, go back in time, and then end where we started. Didn’t like Michael but it’s tragic. Poor, poor Davy. Gina helping Cushla towards the end felt very human and was beautiful to read.

A good book that could have been a great book if the author could have found just a little more joy or hope beyond the last 3 pages. Unremittingly sad.

I enjoyed the section covering the aftermath of Michael Agnew's murder the most because it picked up pace while I found the first parts well-written but a bit more meandering. I'm not sure I fully understood Cushla's entering into the relationship/situationship with Michael in the first place, as they did not seem to have much in common beyond a physical attraction? One thing I thought could have been explored more is Cushla's interest in literature, which is occasionally mentioned/shown implicitly but limited to a few glimpses.

Stunning book set in the 70s the writing was beautifu, great for sally rooney fans (i can slightly look past the no use of quotatios in this one due to paragraph breaks). I
did not know much about Irish history but I can see how influential The Troubles had on both sides of the political/religious landscape. At times i forgot the setting, as i was drawn to the story of cushla, her relationship with her family, students (in advocacy and protection) and the affair. Not sure why i didn't expect the ending.
